Compressing a video with Equalza takes three steps.
Equalza's video compressor is built for speed, privacy, and simplicity:
Most online compressors upload your files to remote servers, exposing your content to third parties and capping free usage. Equalza is different. Every byte of your video stays on your own device because compression runs locally via WebAssembly. That means zero privacy risk, no file-size paywalls, and no daily limits. It works on any modern desktop browser — Chrome, Edge, and Firefox deliver the best performance — and supports 18 interface languages out of the box.
Video compression reduces file size by re-encoding the data with a more efficient codec. Equalza outputs H.264, the most widely supported lossy codec, inside an MP4 container. The main levers that affect output size are bitrate (how many bits per second of video) and resolution (pixel dimensions). Lowering either one shrinks the file but may reduce visible quality. Our presets adjust bitrate automatically so you get a good trade-off without needing to understand the technical details.
Equalza accepts the four most common video formats as input:
Regardless of input format, the compressed output is always MP4 (H.264 + AAC) to guarantee playback everywhere — browsers, phones, TVs, and social media platforms.
Because compression happens inside the browser, your device's RAM is the bottleneck. We recommend files up to 500 MB for a smooth experience; files up to ~2 GB may work on desktops with ample memory but can slow down or crash the tab. Chrome and Edge deliver the best WebAssembly performance. Firefox works well; Safari has limited support. On mobile devices, stay under 100 MB. Close other tabs to free memory, and keep the browser tab in the foreground — background tabs may be throttled by the OS.
